Year 8 Ako

Our Hapori classes have been working on their SMART key learning strength goals. These goals give akonga the skills they need to learn, succeed and have fun at school. After discussion with whānau at PSTs, each learner’s goal will be finalised and included in the Term 1 report. We have also started our beginning-of-year assessments which allow us to identify gaps and learning priorities for the term in core subject areas. Our Integrated Unit this term will be inquiring into the history and significance of the local area, our names, and journeys of people to New Zealand over history.

We are being guided this term by the whakatauki “E waka eke noa” - we are all in this canoe together. Developing a strong, safe, challenging and fun learning community, where our akonga feel a sense of belonging and pride, is our goal. Swimming sports was a wonderful chance for us to celebrate, compete and participate together as whānau groups and we are looking forward to Whānau Spirit Day this Friday. All of our learners have identified what they bring to their Hapori community. Here is a picture of the developing 8Ako waka display which will display our amazing learners and their waka hoe (paddle) showing their personal skill.
