Art Department Update

It's been a busy time across the Arts Department this term, but there is still just enough time to tell you more about a few of the highlights from the past few weeks.

● The Selwyn Art show was a hit! Students' work looked very professional alongside local artists who exhibited. Thanks to everyone who came to the show to support.

● Friday Photography Club has snapped into life! Well done to our talented Year Eleven photographer Finn Pullan, who is leading the club.

● The Artstart Exhibition is happening at the end of June, featuring a limited edition print signing by Year Thirteen student Trelise Christian. Trelise’s paintings will be professionally framed and sold, and she will earn commission on every sale! Keep an eye on the school notices for more information, including the times and location. We hope the show is a huge success for all the students involved.

● We are looking forward to the Senior Art Gallery Trip in the last week of Term Two. Following the excellent trip last year, it’s all aboard the bus to Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū again, where students will have a guided tour of current exhibitions and attend a workshop led by their incredible educators.

● Although new this term, gorgeous ceramics are already coming out of the Pottery Club. With the kiln refurbished and fired back up, we are ready to get glazing next term!

● We really enjoyed having our visiting Omiya Japanese students in the Art Room for a Monoprinting workshop last week. Given the long history of printmaking in Japan, it was great to introduce them to the vibrant printmaking art of New Zealand artist Sheyne Tuffery.

● Rockquest 2023 songwriting and compositional experimenting has begun: go loud or go home! Good luck to the duo Crystal Ellingford and Bailey Barker who have entered this year: we believe in you!

● Save the date of August 24th in your diary: our Talent Show will take to the stage then! We have been overwhelmed by the number of entries this year, and finalists will be announced soon. Entries came in from every year group at our school, and include singing, dancing, music and comedy! This year Ellesmere College will be competing against talented teams from Darfied, Rolleston and Lincoln in the finals. Thank you to Angelica Laumanu for organising and preparing our entries for their big moment.
