INDUSTRIAL ACTION HALTS SECONDARY SCHOOL SPORT

On Wednesday 21st of June all Ellesmere College teams were impacted by the PPTA teachers industrial action which meant teachers that are members of the PPTA union were unable to coach and manage sports teams. This resulted in a blanket decision to call off all sport. This was a disappointing outcome that affected us and many other students across the Canterbury region and in fact, the whole of New Zealand.

Sport will resume as normal on Wednesday 28th of June and this will be the final day of competition for the term before resuming on week 1 for Term 3.

MIDDLE QUAD POSTPONED AND RESCHEDULED

Due to ground conditions at Darfield Domain the Year 9 and 10 Quad tournament (Netball/ Rugby/ Football) had to be postponed on Tuesday 20th June. This event has now been rescheduled to Tuesday 27th June with all original arrangements applying to the new competition date.

STAFF DOMINATE STUDENTS IN SIDELINE SPORTS- MR JOSH PRICE

Here's a report on today's Staff v Yr. 13 sideline sports game at lunchtime.

"The chance for revenge quickly turned into a nightmare for the Ellesmere College Yr. 13s. It quickly became apparent they were more outmatched by a wildly under-numbered staff side.

A quick 8-nil lead was built up with wins in hockey, football, netball and basketball. Morale then dropped in the Yr.13s, especially with a raucous crowd getting behind the Yr. 7 teachers contributing to the staff side.

The Yr.13s finally got on the board when a student sitting out of the game altered the direction of a hockey shot towards the goal. Their second point came when an unnamed head student decided to insert herself into the game giving her side a numerical advantage. Our belief in their knowledge of the RISE values started to come into question.

However, it did not matter, even when every staff member started to slowly suffer from the effects of fatigue, as the staff side came away with a resounding 17-4 victory."

UPDATE FROM YEAR 7 & 8 MONDAY BASKETBALL- MR ANDY MORTON

Monday night basketball is in full swing for the three Ellesmere College junior teams. Primary and intermediate schools from around Selwyn are competing in a competition held at the Selwyn Sports Centre in Rolleston. Our year 7 and 8 girls' team have made a strong start to their grade and are improving on their skills every week. The girls turn up raring to go and the energy that comes from their team is amazing to watch. The two other year 7 and 8 teams have been really hitting their stride the last couple of weeks with the blue team taking out a hard fought win last Monday night. The skills displayed from all schools is impressive to see and the competition is only getting hotter as we look towards the second half of the

Season.
