Year 8 Ako

The term has flown by for our 8Ako students, with lots going on.

It’s been great to see how many of our ākonga have been getting involved in activities outside of the classroom, including JumpJam, Swimming Sports, tennis, athletics, whole school events such as the Colour Run, and our school committees.

We had a fantastic turnout at the Year 7 and 8 disco last Friday, thanks to the senior students for organising this opportunity for our learners.

We are pulling our research and knowledge together from our inquiry this term “Titiro whakamuri, kia anga whakamua” (Looking backwards into the future), and our work will be on display at Exhibition Evening. The students have incorporated their knowledge of the origins and importance of their own and their family names, their whakapapa and the locations of importance to them, into one literary artwork.

We have also been working hard on developing our number and operations knowledge, learning new writing weapons, and on building our reading stamina.

Thanks for helping your tamariki succeed by encouraging them to be prepared for daily learning with a good breakfast, a charged device, and the correct stationery. Please note that we only allow students to drink water in class, so a named drink bottle containing plain water is a must.

Have a wonderful break, and we’ll be back in touch in Term 2!
