'Ngā mihi o Matariki, te tau hou Māori' - Happy Matariki to all from Kiwi Whitu class.
Across New Zealand we have had the chance to celebrate Matariki as an official public holiday.
In Kiwi whitu we decided to design and create lanterns to acknowledge and celebrate this special event. We worked through the Technology design process to make the lantern and also learnt how to install a simple electrical circuit at the bottom of our lantern to create light.
Last Monday night Kiwi whitu children and their whānau met at school, flicked the switch on our lanterns and walked around our community wishing everyone a Happy Matariki. Lots of fun, laughter and happy times with our whānau, friends and community on a winter's night.
Our lanterns shone as bright as the Matariki stars twinkling in the sky.
