Science comes alive with Charlie Greenslade during Junior Discovery
Charlie Greenslade is a Year 6 Senior student in Room 19 with a great love of Science. He came to Room 5 to share his Oobleck science experiment with the lucky Year 0 children.
Charlie showed his powerpoint of how to make oobleck and explained how the different substances of maize cornflour and water reacted with each other. Charlie was so lovely with the children, leading the discussion, speaking confidently to the class, and answering the children's questions. He told the children Oobleck had properties of both liquids and solids, and how you can slowly dip your hand into it like a liquid, but if you squeeze the oobleck or punch it, it will feel solid. Charlie's experiment generated so much excitement that the children wanted to make their own oobleck!
Charlie came to our Friday Discovery time and set up his own science learning station. He became the facilitator and guided and supported the children as they made their own oobleck. He showed wonderful leadership qualities as he positively and patiently engaged with the children and definitely inspired some budding young scientists! Thank you, Charlie, for sharing your commitment and passion for learning with the very enthusiastic, lucky children you worked with.
