Football Season
At the start of Term two around 60 children decided to trial for football. It was hard to make it into a team.
Only 11 made the Dragons and 12 made the Knights. At our first game the Dragons won and the Knights did too. All throughout the season the Dragons won all of the games as they played easy teams. The Knights lost some but won most of them and all tried their hardest.
When the zones came around, I'm sure everyone was pretty nervous. We got into our first pool game and won! Off to a great start. We won all the games in the rest of the pool. Then we won the quarterfinals, semifinals and just had the finals to go! We had a drink of water and got onto the field. It was a tough game but in the end, we won 4-2.
Then about a month later we had the Canterbury Championships. We were a little bit nervous. For our first game we were taken by surprise at how good they were. We ended up coming out on top but we had some difficult games in our pool including our last game which was against the team that ended up coming third! We made it into the quarter finals and had a hard game but still won 3-2. In the semifinal we thought we would have a really hard game but we ended up winning 5-0. They were a great team but we played really well! We had half an hour to warm up for the finals. When we were warmed up, we walked over to the field ready for our last game.
Within 30 seconds the opposition had scored. Everyone on the sideline sat down with disappointment. We kept our heads up and got our heads back into the game. We got a quick goal back and then another. It was 2-1 coming into half time and then they scored right before the bell making the half-time score 2-2. At half time, the team switched around and we scored a quick goal with a great cross and header. Then we got another one and were up 4-2. With 30 seconds left they scored 3-4. We kicked off, then the organiser rang the bell and we had won the whole Canterbury competition.
We all ran on the field and celebrated.
A big thank you to all those wonderful adults who helped us out during the season and also for those that came along and supported us. A special thanks to Mr Harper and Amber who coached the teams.
