Canterbury Cross Country
Seven students represented Elmwood Normal School at the Canterbury Cross Country on Wednesday 26th June at Ngā Puna Wai. It was a very wet morning and it basically felt like a mud course! A lot of people slipped over, luckily no one from our school. There were over 100 schools participating on the day.
At the start of the race, our legs were shaking from nerves. We were in a huge crowd of girls racing our 2km race. The race started and all of a sudden everyone took off at a lightning pace. There were a few screams due to the water puddles but it didn’t take long before everyone got used to it. Soon everyone spread out and the pace slowed a little bit but was still very quick. We finished the race on the track. Louise came in second place and was running neck and neck with a student from another school. They finished 1 second apart! All the races were great to watch and it was a good experience to be a part of.
Afterwards everyone was tired and I think everyone will be needing to clean their shoes and their sports uniforms! Overall everyone made a great effort in the Canterburys and we hope everyone enjoys it next year. We hope everyone's legs recover from that challenging course.
