ANZAC Day - remembered by our students
When we returned to school after the holidays Kiwi Rima and Kiwi Tahi collaborated and learnt about ANZAC Day together.
We found out that it is a special day in Australia and New Zealand when we remember the soldiers who fought in wars a long, long time ago. They were very, very brave and fought to keep us safe.
On ANZAC Day, a lot of New Zealanders and Australians wake up early and go to a special ceremony, wear poppies and listen to people speak. We also see big parades with soldiers in uniforms and shiny medals. It's important to be quiet and show respect because ANZAC Day is a serious day.
We say "thank you" to the soldiers and remember their sacrifices. Together we sang the National Anthem in front of the school memorial and laid the poppy wreaths that we had made. We learnt about bravery and being kind to others. We decided to make ANZAC biscuits and show kindness to the Elmwood staff and students. They all thought our biscuits were delicious. ANZAC Day is a day to be proud and grateful for our soldiers!
