A snapshot of the happenings in Term One in the Senior School at Elmwood Normal School
Swimming Carnival: Recently the Year 5 and 6 Children who had not participated in the Championship Event at Jellie Park had the opportunity to compete against each other in a fun Swimming Carnival.
Some of the events that they were able to participate in were: a length of Freestyle, Backstroke or Breaststroke. Then there were width races such as Kickboard, Running and the Noodle Race. It was great to see children participating in a variety of events and many children extended themselves. Well done to all of those children that participated. A big thank you to those parents who came along to view the event. This is a timely opportunity to thank Bill (Caretaker) and Mr Armitage (Principal) for all their time and effort that they put into the pool making sure that it meets the health and hygiene requirements and that we can continue to have this great resource at our doorstep.
Sharing information and achievements outside of school in Ruru Toru
Pascuala has a wonderful collection of feathers that often have an interesting story behind them. She was sharing information about the feathers with Ruru Toru at their Morning Hui Time. The feather that she has in her hand is from a Pink Flamingo.
Cooper and his mum Shannon had kindly organised to bring the hine a wharariki putiputi (flax Flower) on Valentines Day.
Thank you so much for the aroha and thoughtfulness shown.
Earlier this year it was Chinese New Year. Stacie was able to share her knowledge about the special event and bring along some items from home that had a significance to this special day. Thank you Stacie.
Louise and Poet are the first recipients in gaining their ‘Provisional Licence’ in Ruru Toru.
A provisional licence is when you have shown that you are organised, independent, actively listening etc. When you have a provisional licence you can gain privileges such as working in middle earth (corridor), going to places like the library independently.
Zones of Regulation
Ruru Toru has just started looking at Zones of Regulation.
This is a programme that is designed to help children to foster self-regulation and emotional control.
It was wonderful to see all the children actively engaged and sharing their ideas within their small group. Great mahi tahi.
