Ferrymead Historic Park
Stepping back in time to the 1900's was an experience enjoyed by our Year 1 children last week.
On Tuesday May 3rd sixty four Year 1 children set off in a double decker bus on route to Ferrymead Historic Park as part of our Inquiry, entitled "CHANGE". The bus ride was exciting for the children, especially those who have never been on a bus before.
On arrival we were greeted by Robert, who was quick to explain the expectations while at Ferrymead. There were a few "gulps of air" by the children... and some adults.
Etiquette for Children while at Ferrymead:
• Ladies before gentlemen
• Students walk in straight lines – one for boys and another for girls
• Stand tall and proud with shoulders back – good posture was important
• No hands in pockets, scuffing of shoes or chattering!
• Children should be seen and not heard
How times have changed!
Our day started with wearing period costumes. Don't we look great!
During the day the children moved through a rotation of 4 activities- making a cookie at the bakery, playing some old playground games, doing housework (washing, ironing, bed making, sweeping) to help Mrs Gray, playing with old fashioned toys (hobby horse, knuckle bones, hoops, blowing bubbles etc), and finally enjoying a tram ride.
We all decided that life in the early 1900's is a far cry from 2022.
We were joined by a great team of parents who supported the children at the different activities. A huge thank you to the parents who joined us on the day.
Did we fulfil our inquiry focus: developments in technology over time have changed how people lead their lives... YES we did!
It certainly helped having perfect weather to compliment a perfect day of LEARNING. Enjoy the photo gallery.
