World Champion Egg Thrower!
It’s not every day you have a World Champion Egg Thrower in your neck of the woods, so it was an eggcellent opportunity for Room 4 to practice writing letters and asking open-ended questions in an authentic and very strange context.
Lachie Davidson (an Ashburton native and friend of Mr Coote) won the World Egg Throwing Championship in England back in July and was eggstatic to come into Elmwood and share some knowledge, answer some questions and have a good yolk with the children of Room 4. Because it was a cracking day, we even got to take the rubber eggs out for a throw. We weren’t quite at the benchmark of 60 metres which won the title for Lachie, but had a few great catches at about 10 metres. We even got a real egg out and Mr Coote was on the receiving end. He managed to get to 30 metres before cracking under pressure and getting scrambled. The children learnt some interesting facts such as how small brown eggs seem to be the strongest and how shaking the egg to crack the yolk is essential for less spillages. Watch this space, as we may have some future ‘Yolk Ferns’ in our midst.
