FURUNO Berthing Aid System
FURUNO’s emerging technology recognized by ClassNK
Furuno's new Berthing Aid System has received the Innovation Endorsement Certification for Products & Solutions from ClassNK. This follows ClassNK endorsement of Furuno's AR-100M and 3D Bird View technologies last year.
This innovative product has contributed to the success of demonstration tests of fully autonomous ship navigation by DFFAS (Designing the Future of Full Autonomous Ship) consortium, as part of the unmanned ship project "MEGURI2040" led by the Nippon Foundation.
About the Berthing Aid System
The Berthing Aid System provides berthing assistance by measuring and displaying the distance between the ship and the quay. An aerial view with camera images depicting the ship's surroundings and a track chart showing past, present, and next routes, can be easily found on the display. The system also provides essential indicators for navigation, such as wind direction, wind speed, ship speed at the bow and stern, heading, rate of turn, and the angle to the quay. Moreover, in the event of a risk of collision between the ship and the quay, the system can predict the contact angle and speed based on acceleration, alerting the navigator to the danger in advance and reducing the risk of accidents.
