Job Vacancy - General Manager(Theatre) Regent on Broadway, Palmerston North.

It was the end of an era when Charles Forbes retired recently - his are certainly some big shoes to fill.

The Regent on Broadway has a rich and colourful history dating back to 1929 and it is one of New Zealand's leading provincial theatres with features that rival many of its counterparts in other major cities.

As the saying in theatre goes, "The show must go on," and after 20+ years we have farewelled our GM so it will be your role as General Manager of the Regent on Broadway to bring a new vision and maximise its full potential. You will be responsible for the smooth operational running of the theatre including production, financial, administrative, and marketing functions. You will also play a pivotal part in making our city more creative and exciting and help achieve the vision of Palmerston North City Council becoming an arts powerhouse by developing and implementing a diverse and clear vision.

The areas of responsibility:

  • Be responsible for day to day operations
  • Theatre and financial management
  • Preparation and presentation of board and stakeholder reports
  • Ensure the business meets key strategic objectives
  • Be responsible for all areas of compliance
  • Mentor and lead a team of 6 and manage teams of volunteers
  • Facility management of a Grade 1 listed historic building


Experience required:

  • Theatre management experience including programme development within a venue for hire setting and event management
  • Extensive knowledge of the performing arts industry
  • Be well connected with Producers, Promotors other theatres and touring circuits
  • Facility management
  • Staff coaching, mentoring and performance management
  • Proven ability to work across all cultures to ensure diversity
  • Exemplary communication skills
  • Ability to embrace technology
