Fairfield School Newsletter - Term 3, Week 7

Fairfield School —

Last week we had 4 students compete in the police PCT challenge. For the first time in our history we won the event... amazing!

🏃PCT Challenge

Ivy, Marara, Blake and Mason took out the competition last week at the Bluelight Challenge! Congratulations!

Well done to both of our teams who entered and represented our Kura.

This is the first time in Bluelight history that a Fairfield team has won. Amazing effort.

The students completed the course in 2 minutes 45.08 seconds.

The PCT Challenge, or Police Conduct Test Challenge, is a fitness test used by police forces in New Zealand to assess the physical readiness of recruits. It is a crucial part of the selection process for potential police officers, ensuring they meet the physical demands of the job.

The PCT Challenge typically includes a series of physical tasks designed to test strength, endurance, agility, and overall fitness. These tasks may involve:

  1. Running: Assessing cardiovascular endurance and speed.

  2. Obstacle Courses: Testing agility and the ability to navigate physical barriers.

  3. Strength Exercises: Such as push-ups or carrying heavy objects, to evaluate muscular strength and endurance.

Recruits must complete these tasks within specific time limits or with particular performance standards to pass the test. The challenge is designed to simulate the physical challenges that officers may face in real-life scenarios, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of police work.

Teacher Appreciation

It’s time to shine a spotlight on the incredible team of teachers who make our school such a special place! 🌟

Every day, our teachers bring enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication to their classrooms. From inspiring lessons to providing endless support, they make a huge impact on our students' lives.

We want to send out a huge THANK YOU to each and every teacher for all that you do. Your hard work, passion, and commitment are truly appreciated. Whether you’re crafting engaging lessons, offering a helping hand, or just being there with a smile, you’re making a world of difference 🙂

And a huge thank you to some of our senior students for decorating our staffroom - it looked amazing!

Learning Conferences - Term 4

We’re looking forward to our Learning Conferences on October 29th and 30th! This is a wonderful chance to chat with teachers about how your child is doing and how we can work together to support their learning.

Here’s the schedule:

  • Wednesday, October 30th: 3:10 PM – 5:40 PM

Be sure to save these dates and keep an eye out for more information on how to book your slot. We can’t wait to see you there and have some great conversations about your child’s progress.

More information to be shared soon.

🏆️ Nikau Netball Team

We’d like to give a big shout-out to our awesome Fairfield Nikau team! 🎉 The recent newsletter was fantastic, but we noticed a couple of things that we wanted to share to better reflect the team’s incredible achievement.

Firstly, our team won with a final score of 18-2. This is a very special moment for everyone involved!

We also want to give a huge thanks to our amazing coaches who made all this possible. Dyani (Coach) and Renee (Manager) have worked tirelessly, and their dedication truly shone through and had a hugely positive impact on the team.

A special note: Most of our players started with minimal netball skills, and their progress throughout the season has been nothing short of remarkable. By the end of the season, they were scoring goals and showing off their hard-earned skills!

We’re incredibly proud of the team’s hard work!!!

🎭️ Duffy Theatre Show

Duffy has been reading a lot of mystery novels lately and luckily he has because a case has come up! His cousin, Crystal Kea, is a Black Fern but she is facing a crisis! Her stat card has been misprinted at the factory and it is really affecting her skill and confidence. Never fear, Duffy and Scruffy are on the case! Together, using their mystery books as a helpful guide, they must figure out who or what is behind the misprints so Crystal can get back to full form before her next game!

Students and staff were treated to the Duffy Books travelling theatre show. The Calling Detective Duffy – Stat show was the perfect opportunity to promote the Books In Homes message: “It’s cool to read and it’s cool to achieve”. Hearing the laughter and participation from our students in the audience, was magic!
