Principal's Message Term 3, Week 3
Storylines Tour
We had the privilege of having author James Russell, who is touring with Storylines, visit our kura. James captured the students' imagination as he brought his books to life. James is also very entertaining; the students were in stitches, laughing! Younger children enjoyed The Dragon Hunters series while our older readers discovered the chapter books - Dragon Defenders.
James Russell's book, The Children of the Rush, links to NZ history depicting the Gold Rush. As the book has been selected for Book Awards, it has meant that James has become one of the Finalists for this year's New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults, with the announcement due August 10th. Fingers crossed for James! Students were fascinated with the interactive app which brings the pictures to 3D life. The books in our library, as you can imagine, flew off the shelf within minutes of the author's visit!
Mihi whakatau
On 31st August we held a Mihi whakatau to welcome all new ākonga from Term 2 and the start of Term 3. We also welcomed our new Learning Support Coordinator, Fiona, who we are fortunate to have joined us this term.
Cookie Dough Fundraiser
The FCG is currently organising a cookie dough fundraiser, for anyone who is interested!

Cultural Day Wednesday 23rd August
At Fairfield School we celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures through a range of cultural activities. On Wednesday 23rd August we invite all students and families to celebrate their culture. Your child may wish
to celebrate the cultural day by wearing a special item of clothing, bringing a flag, a special item, or sharing a
little of their language. We will also have a shared lunch at 1:35p.m. We encourage students to bring food
which is special to them and their family to share with their classmates. We invite whānau also to
come into your child’s classroom and share in the food. Please let your child’s teacher know if they
have any food allergies.
Please find below further information on this special day 🙂
KickStart Breakfast
We continue to offer KickStart Breakfast every morning for all students who wish to join us, from 8:20am in the Library. We are grateful to Sanitarium for the Weetbix and our Local Anchor Milk Suppliers who ensure we have free food for all our tamariki and our amazing whānau who volunteer their time to run the Breakfast Club. While stocks last, during the colder month of August, we will have Milo also. All students are welcome, however please let your child's teacher know, if you do not want them to go to the library before school for breakfast.
