Kia ora,
School Photos are Monday, May 30th, next week. Information will be sent home with your children regarding photos.
A key focus for real-time reporting, which is occurring this week on your @school app, is for parents to comment on their child's work. The students are eagerly waiting to see their parents' feedback.
To add a little incentive, we will run a draw. If you post a comment on your child's work your name will go into a draw to be the lucky winner of a $20 coffee voucher.
See below for information on our new reporting system that will go live this week.
The new platform for the reporting will be on your @school app. Many of you have signed up for the @school app. If you haven't, the instructions are below. The Spotlight function for reporting will appear on parent/caregiver's phones in Week 4. You will see the first reporting post during the week of week 4. You will have the option to post a comment to your child about their learning progress. Your will be be eagerly awaiting your response to their learning! Just click on the comment box.

Duffy Books in Homes
Students received their 2 free Duffy Books at the end of last term which is kindly funded by Duffy Books in Homes and through the amazing fundraising efforts of our school parents on the Fairfield Community Group. Have you had a chance to talk to your child about their books? Above is a short video from TVNZ's Melissa Stokes as she shares a word with schools as part of the recent online Role Models for Duffy Books. Students will also receive 2 more free Government funded Duffy Books at the end of this term. Happy reading!
Below is a letter from Senithi Room 17, thanking the Fairfield Community Group for sponsoring Duffy Books.
To the Fairfield Community Group,
I got 2 books from Duffy and I really enjoyed them. I’m still reading the second book but it’s interesting so far. Even our cat enjoys it and she can’t read. My favourite out of the 2 is ‘Trapped in Hitler’s Web’. It was about a Ukrainian girl named Maria and her life living in Hitler’s war. The book was interesting to me because I never knew what people during the war felt, and the book let me find out a lot about WW2, and inspired me to do more research about it. Thank you for the books.
From: Senithi
Hello Fairfield Community Group,
My name is Mathew from Fairfield School in Levin, I am writing this letter to you to show how much I appreciate your books. I have a few of your books and I love them. They are funny and just overall great. Thank you for giving kids all across New Zealand a book to read.
From Mathew G.
To the Fairfield Community Group,
I received two books from Duffy books and I enjoyed the cat kid comic club perspectives 2.
It was a great book to read. I read it at home and when we were in the car. I loved
the pictures. The characters and story is great. It was a great book. I read it in 3-4 days. I
think. When I read it all my brother wanted to read it too. It was funny and weird. Thank-you
for giving the books to me for free. I enjoyed it a lot. When I read the cat kid comic club
perspectives 2 I was also reading Thea Stilton and the roman holiday..these books are one
of my favourite. This was a cool book. I was learning about Rome and I saw cool pictures. I
loved that Violet and her friends got trapped in a room with the book she was looking for.
They tried to call their other friends, but there was no connection there. So they tried to find a
door or window to break out of. That was cool to read about.Thank-you for the free books!

Sports Update
Over the past two years we have been transitioning to online communications for all school notices and sports updates. Once the school receives information relating to an upcoming sports opportunity it is posted via the @schoolapp as a ‘digital permission slip’.
Checking the school website ‘sports’ tab (sports page) and @schoolapp regularly will ensure you do not miss a deadline for entering your child in a sport.
Please be understanding that teachers helping to organise a sport are also focused on providing the best learning experience for tamariki in their learning spaces, therefore they are not able to answer sports questions during teaching time. You will find team lists, draws and information relating to a sport on the school website. Add link
If you have any other questions about a sports opportunity please email sports@fairfieldlevin.school.nz and it will be answered as soon as possible.
Hauora Student Leadership Team
Our Hauora Student Leadership team this year are Katelyn, Ashlee, Katie, Charli, Isabell, Ryan and Kaleb. The students are representatives for their classrooms and meet once a week to give valuable and insightful feedback on how we can respond as a school, to student voice to ensure students' hauora (wellbeing) is looked after. We follow the Te Whare Tapa Whā model by nurturing and strengthening all four dimensions. The wharenui (meeting house) is a symbol of the 4 dimensions which are taha tinana (physical wellbeing), taha hinengaro (mental wellbeing), taha wairua (spiritual wellbeing) and taha whānau (family & social).
Students have been focusing on taha whānau to look after wellbeing. The Hauora Student Leadership Team have identified the need to ensure students feel a connection and sense of belonging at break time and can join in a game or activity. These students volunteer their time twice a week to organise games for our students to join in with.
Our student leadership team have also suggested the following ideas which families might like to participate in at home:-
- everybody in the house contributes to making dinner once a week - grate, cut vegetables - even little kids could help by setting the table
- play games such as Uno, have a board game night or family movie night
- go on outings such as a family bike ride, go for walks, bushwalk, there are lots of walks in Palmy, have fun jumping in the leaves, go for a picnics, go to parks in Levin.
