ICAS Examinations
The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is an independent, skills-based assessment program based on the Australian curriculum. We offer the opportunity for students in Years 3-6 to sit these exams. It is optional.

To enter
Please complete a form for each child.
then make payment to the school by Friday 18 March. Entry for the exams is not complete until payment is received. We cannot enter students if payment is late.
Payment
Payment for the exams can be by cash or cheque, EFTPOS at the school office or online transfer.
If paying by cash or cheque, please place this in a clearly named envelope in the school office dropbox.

Subjects
The subjects assessed are:
Digital Technologies (Years 4-6)
Science (Years 3-6)
Writing (Years 4-6)
Spelling (Years 4-6)
English (Years 3-6)
Maths (Years 3-6)
Each year, a team of subject experts develop the tests with reference to the Australian curriculum. The skills-based assessments are designed to assess the level of competency a student possesses in each subject area.
Preparation
Specific preparation for ICAS tests is not required as the assessments are skills-based. However, a suite of practice materials is available online at https://www.eaa.unsw.edu.au/icas/preparation
What if my child is not at school on the sitting date?
Students can sit an exam before or after the official sitting date and still receive a certificate however they will not qualify for medals. The school will offer one late entry testing date.
Results
Results are published via our Middle and Senior Team blogs. Students will receive their test booklet, student results sheet and certificate from their classroom teacher. Students who achieve a Distinction or High Distinction certificate or a medal will have this presented at whole school assembly.
Certificates
High Distinction - the top 1% of participants
Distinction - the next top 10% of participants
Credit - the next 25% of participants
Merit - the next 10% of participants
Participation - all remaining participants
Medals
Students with the top score in each subject in each year level are awarded a medal and a medal winner's certificate . It should be noted that students must have written the relevant assessment on the official ICAS sitting date and the result must be judged as sufficiently meritorious to be eligible for a UNSW medal.
