What is a Spell-a-thon?

All children in the school will be focussing on spelling for the next two weeks. We want to encourage success with their spelling. Teachers will select words which represent “next step” learning and are appropriate for each child. There will be between 5 and twenty words to learn.

With the help of parents at home, each child will learn their spelling words. On Monday 20 March, all children will be tested on their list of words. A guide to help your child learn his/her alphabet, basic sight words or spelling words is printed on the back of this sheet. Children will be given their final test to take home so that parents can see how each word was spelt and how many were correct.

The Spell-a-thon is secondly a fundraising opportunity for our school. Children will be given a sponsor sheet and will ask friends and relatives to sponsor them for spelling words correctly. Their sponsors pay money according to how many words they spelled correctly. Please note that taking part in the Spell-a-thon as a fundraising event is not compulsory.
