Year 6 Camp - Wainui 2022

Fendalton School —

Read below some snippets of the children's thoughts from camp

My favourite activity was the Giant Swing because it reminded me of a time when I went to a park in Australia and the swings were very high. The reason why I enjoyed the Giant Swing so much is because it was a nice view.

I’ve done a lot of fun things at camp. Climbing up trees is definitely not my thing so that was the most challenging activity for me. The harnesses and helmets were very uncomfortable while waiting for my turn but the best thing during abseiling was hearing my team members encouraging me from below. When I reached the summit of the tree it felt so awesome.

My favourite activity was abseiling because you cheered all of us on and we cheered everyone on as well, we also did a mega mega shaka. Everyone came in and did a mega shaka. I was nervous about it at first but when I did it I wanted to do it again.

The food at camp was delicious. I like how we could get a lot of chocolate moose and the mac and cheese looked like the shape of a hamburger and tasted surprisingly good.

I grew my capabilities during camp, especially coasteering because I was kind of scared of water as I have almost drowned before so I had to draw on my courage. The best thing about coasteering was finding creatures such as shrimp and sea anemones.

I personally enjoyed archery the most. Getting to test my accuracy was an amazing opportunity and I really enjoyed it. I didn’t really like the cutlery game, though. I was not risking eating with just my mouth!

Sitting by the campfire and chanting hilarious songs was my favourite activity at camp. Watching the fire grow into a bright light in the dark night while the instructor told us a story.

My favourite activity was abseiling. It was a challenge for me because I am scared of heights but it was GREAT. I was scared but after I got used to the height I wasn’t scared.

I experienced lots of new things during camp. I feel like Coasteering was the most challenging because I don’t swim much. The wet suit was quite uncomfortable at first. The best thing about coasteering is finding a lot of sea creatures like crabs.

My best-loved activity was the gargantuan swing. Because it was like me running for the ice cream van except it was more like flying because it was a swing. It was a challenge because I am scared of heights but I love them.

I learnt lots of things at camp and now I am less scared of heights but I love them even more! I feel archery was the most challenging because I don't normally shoot things!!! It was a bit awkward at first because I didn't know how to shoot it. But eventually, I got better and improved a lot!
