Year 3/4 Rā Whakahira photos
This year, in years 3 and 4 we have been learning about New Zealand’s native plants.
We first learned about what they were used for by the early Maori. Flax was used for weaving, so we learned how to weave. We also found out that they can be used to eat and for medicine as well as practical purposes. During EOTC week we visited Pūtaringamotu, and Riccarton Bush to see them growing. We even had an ice block made from Manuka and honey! We also had a visit from Trees for Canterbury to explain to us why they are important for our environment and how best they grow.
We created kete by weaving and we have also researched and wrote plant tags to help you plant and care for your Kowhai and Korokio.
We hope our whānau will buy our plants in their Ketes and take home their own special piece of Native New Zealand for their garden.
