Fendalton School —

Congratulations to Paul Walker who was recognised this week for his outstanding contribution to our school environment by the Keep Christchurch Beautiful Community.

Earlier in the year we entered the school for two awards. The children have been focusing on reducing litter all year. Three children from Room 17, Xander, Richard and Shaun who have worked very hard as leaders of their 'Go Green' initiative, represented the students. They were very proud to receive a School Environment Award on behalf of the school. Paul Walker received a Caretaker's Award. They received certificates and book tokens for the Library.

It was a lovely afternoon and the boys came back filled with new ideas and enthusiasm for improving our environment. They explained their 'Go Green' club to both the Keep Christchurch Beautiful and the Keep NZ Beautiful teams. Mrs Davids and I were very proud of the complimentary feedback about how passionately and clearly they spoke.

We are of course always very proud of Paul, our fantastic caretaker. It was a great opportunity to acknowledge publicly the huge job he does and the extra work that he readily takes on to make our environment both safe and attractive for the children, not to mention his imaginative library displays which make school so much richer.

The teachers are putting together the final learning report comments for the year and these will be published to your secure online account in the next couple of weeks. End of year assessments will be live on your accounts early next week. Class placements for next year are also nearly complete and this will be published to your account on the 10th December.  This is the day the children will spend some time with their new teacher and classmates .

If you have concerns regarding class placements after they have been published please direct these to me paul.sibson@fendalton.school.nz and not to the teachers.  The teachers work very hard to get the class placements right for all children however it is a complicated process. Placements are only altered in exceptional circumstances.

In 2016 we are making some changes to the Bible in Schools programme at Fendalton. The Board have decided that this programme will not take place during curriculum time. The team who run the programme are planning how this will look in 2016 and would like to know how many children are likely to attend next year. They have not yet decided whether the sessions will be run during a lunchtime or before/ after school.

Please complete this form only if you would like you child to attend the Bible in Schools programme in 2016.

Library books

Please note that these are all due back Friday 4th December. This allows time for our annual stock take to happen. It is also a good time to look for those lost readers or school journals that have been misplaced or forgotten.

Please also return sports tops and jackets if your sports have finished for the year.

Many thanks.
