Latest news from Christchurch City Council
Council facilities are closed...
...but we have some great online services you can use. Try our online library services, join a fitness class live-streamed on Facebook, or use Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū's online art collection to create your own exhibition.

Transfer stations open again
EcoDrop transfer stations at Parkhouse Road, Bromley and Styx Mill are now open to the public. You'll need to make a booking to drop off your rubbish, green waste, recycling and hazardous items. Book online and find out more here.
Barrys Bay Transfer Station is also open under Alert Level 3, but is operating under restricted access. Please follow all directions on arrival, be patient and expect delays.
Council and community board meetings
Council meetings and committee of the whole meetings aren't able to be held in person due to COVID-19 restrictions, so are being held on video conference and will be livestreamed, so they can be watched by the public.
Committee and community board meetings will proceed as scheduled via video conferencing and will be either recorded or minuted and posted to the Council website as appropriate. All changes to the schedule will be updated here.
Consenting
Our consenting teams are now supporting the building and construction industry with onsite inspections. They'll continue to process building and resource consents electronically, providing planning and advisory services via phone and email. We have additional health and safety measures in place to help keep worksites safe.
Rates
We know paying rates isn't as easy when our service centres are closed. For the latest information about rates and how we can help, go here or talk to us on 0800 800 169.
Bin good with your recycling
We're processing recycling as normal. Bin good by only putting the correct, clean items into the yellow bin. Find out which items are acceptable.
Getting outdoors
Enjoy the fresh air and exercise locally. You can visit our parks, beaches and the Port Hills, but the Botanic Gardens will remain closed until Alert Level 2. Remember to always maintain a two metre distance from anyone not in your bubble. Please continue to keep your dog on a leash, and take your dog poo and any rubbish home with you.
Preparing for Alert Level 2
We're working on what a change to Alert Level 2 will mean for Council services and facilities as we await further Government announcements. As soon as we have more information we'll send you another update. You can also visit Newsline, or call 0800 800 169 if you'd rather have a chat to someone.
