ANZAC Day Service 2019
Four of our students proudly represented the School at ANZAC service in the Fernside Community Memorial Hall on Thursday.
Rose Hussey began by sharing historical excerpts from our first ANZAC Services held in NZ in 1919 following the end of the War as well as the importance of caring for our returning servicemen and women.
Meagan Husband told of a Canadian Soldier and medical surgeon, John McCrae who was asked to take his friend's funeral. He noticed the poppies growing in the ditches of the cemetery and scribbled down the now famous 15 lines of the poem, In Flanders Field.
Lucy Ward read from her Great Grandfather's (Bill Stocks) diary. He was an ambulance driver/medic and suffered by jaundice. It reminded us of all the people who lost their lives or were severely affected by illnesses and diseases.
Kalio Fungavaka recited the poem, "The Spirit of Anzac". It was a genuine and affecting delivery. All 4 students had spent time practising and memorising their words. The Community appreciated the School and students' participation in the service.
