Fernside School Level 2 -Procedures.
The following pages are the guidelines and protocols the school will use while operating in Level 2. They are presented here to give parents and students some clarity around what school will be like on their return.
Firstly I want to confirm to you all that our school is a safe environment for students and staff. Our cleaner Wendy has done a great job preparing all classrooms. They are as usual spotless.
The school grounds and playgrounds are equally immaculate and Barry has enjoyed the opportunity to do some long overdue maintenance on the grounds and garden beds. They are looking great.
On Monday Prime Minister Jacinda Adern outlined six "golden rules" which Kiwis should follow under level 2 to help stop the spread of the virus.
- to minimise the risk that someone gets infected in the first place
- ensure we can identify and contact anyone who has been in close contact with a person who is/maybe infected
- enabling good hygiene practices – regular washing and drying of hands and good cough and sneeze etiquette remain fundamental to preventing spread of illness.
- maintaining physical distancing where practicable - in schools at Alert Level 2 this means children, young people, and staff maintaining a physical distance so that they are not breathing on or touching each other
- keeping track of people that enter our school
On return to school and especially these next two weeks, our focus will be re-establishing relationships, supporting student well-being and building high level health and hygiene routines.
We will be teaching students about Respecting the personal space of others (personal bubble), and how to Work Together to follow some new rules and routines. (We're not sure how long we will be in Level-2 but the practices we introduce will be positive health protocols for the rest of the term.)
If you have any questions or concerns please contact your Home Room Teacher, or alternatively contact Andrew or myself directly. We are working with some new guidelines and inevitably individual circumstances will need to be considered. We will review all protocols as we enter Queens' Birthday weekend.
See you all Monday
David
