Youth Employment Success

Rosaleen Ward —

5 new Dunedin Youth-friendly employers registered, 6 McDonald’s Open Sessions, 3 minister visits, 19 Eastern Southland Youth-friendly employers.

This year we celebrated two years of Youth Employment Success in Dunedin with an incredible celebration event acknowledging the incredible efforts of our dedicated YES employers. We’ve had over 160 requests from young job seekers this year looking to take up a variety of opportunities with our different employers, with some fantastic stories of success. We were thrilled to bring another five Dunedin employers on board this year, including the Dunedin City Council and Southern District Health Board.

While we celebrated two years of success in the Dunedin region, in May, we launched the next chapter of Youth Employment Success in Eastern Southland. We exceeded our goal to roll out the programme with ten employers, and now have 18 fantastic Eastern Southland employers on board from a variety of industries. In the seven months since launch, we’ve had many young Eastern Southland jobseekers take up opportunities with our Eastern Southland employers.

McDonald’s Dunedin has continued their strong support with six Open Sessions this year, each time introducing a group of young job seekers to the business and the incredible career pathways McDonald’s provide to their employees. Several attendees have even gained employment with McDonald’s following the Open Sessions.

A massive shout out and thank you to all of our incredible employers and the Youth that we have engaged with through our employment-based opportunities this year. It has been fantastic to be a part of creating such positive outcomes for young job seekers in Dunedin. We’re ready for another massive year of YES in 2019 - be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on all of our opportunities and upcoming events!
