Isolation Workout #8

Natalie Visger —

Designed by year 11 Kavanagh College player Colin Ramsey

Great workout for Kiwi guards, as most are undersized. Develop a killer combo move, finish in the key, and learn two great shooting drills while at home during the school holidays.  You need a ball and a hoop for most of it.  For the shooting drills you need a rebounder.

Warm - up:

1. Leg Swing (right and left sides) 15x each

2. Open & Close the Gate (right and left sides) 15x each, each leg

Finish #1:

Same Foot/Same Hand or Goofy Footed Layups. (from 1:10-2:28 of the video from Moves for Undersized Guards video from EGT Basketball)).

Start from slot or wing or as far away as you can get to three point line if outside at home.  1-2 dribbles then goofy footed layup.  Make 20 from each side.

Finish #2:

Isaiah Thomas 2 Foot Floater (from 2:30-4:50 from Moves for Undersized Guards video from EGT Basketball)

Start from slot or wing or as far away as you can get to three point line if outside at home. 1-2 dribbles then Isaiah Thomas floater. Make 15 from both sides.

Move #3:

Killer Crossover Move (0:20-1:47 of 5 Basketball Moves Video from EGT Basketball)

Start from the same spot as previous finishes.  Start dribbling with your inside hand, then between your legs + crossover to the middle for a jumper. Or if you’d rather dribble with your outside hand first, then btwn legs + crossover to a baseline jumper.  Make 15 reps both sides of basket.

Finish #4:

High off the Glass Layups (1:51-3:53 of 5 Basketball Moves Video from EGT Basketball)

Repeat the killer crossover move again, but do a double crossover (no btwn the legs) and finish with a layup high off the glass. Make and sure and start with the baseline hand so you are finishing on the baseline side.  Make 20 from each side of the court.

Shooting Drill #1:

2+2 Shooting (0:27-1:52 of 3 Shooting Drills Every...from EGT Basketball)

7 spots (corner, wing, slot, top, slot, wing, corner).  If you make 2 in a row you move to the next spot.  If you miss 2 in a row you move to the previous spot.  See how long it takes you to get all the way around.  If it is too easy, move back, or try to finish it again beating your previous time.  (2-3min is your goal). If you really want a challenge, you must “Swish” 2 in a row to move on.

(if time and keen) Extra Shooting Drill:

Number 18 Drill (1:53-3:55 of the 3 Shooting Drills Every...from EGT Basketball)

Spots are corner, wing, top, wing, corner (or you can go wing, slot, top, slot, wing).  You get one minute to make 18 shots. If you don’t make 18 then you try again, but the goal is now 17. If you don’t get that your goal becomes 16.  Find a number you are comfortable with.  If you get the goal number in 1 minute, then you move to spot #2.  This is a great way to get close to 100 made shots in 5 min.  You need a rebounder for this drill, even better would be to have a rebounder and a passer and 2 basketballs.
