Careers & Pathways —

Tertiary Study

Year 13 students transitioning to university or polytechnic next year have been very busy enrolling, submitting their CCRF forms, applying for Halls of Residence and also scholarships. Course planning has also started with U.C. and Otago universities having already met with students along with Otago Polytechnic. Lincoln course planning is on the 9th of October. Any students who have missed out, please contact Mrs Munro to arrange a zoom or phone meeting.KPMG did a presentation on Study Link, on the 7th of August and explained the difference between a student loan and a student allowance. Don't forget to check out our school's CareerWise website, especially the latest news section for a range of career information, work and study options.

Transitioning Out From School

This is also a time when some students are transitioning out of school to work or an apprenticeship. Support is available with CV and Cover Letter construction as well as how to prepare for an interview. Please contact the Pathway Advisor, Mrs Munro: p.munro@geraldinehs.school.nz

A useful tool for all students is the Money Hub NZ website which gives a wide range of support from job hunting, to flatting, finances, power, insurance and kiwisaver.

Gateway Interviews

The Gateway program is designed for Year 12 and 13 learners who want to explore job options while studying towards NCEA. Gateway students get to try out a job in a real work environment, whilst also learning specific work-related knowledge and skills in the classroom. The Gateway interviews included a busy two days with a record number of applicants. Those students who were unsuccessful this time can still meet with Mrs Munro to discuss pathway planning.
