Year 10 Challenge Term 1 Update

Geraldine High School Images —

Year 10 Challenge was off to an adventurous start this year.

A race to turn in permission forms saw 10W coming up on top for the mini challenge of term 1. This was followed by the main challenge of term 1 the High-Low Ropes Course adventure. This was the first of several main class challenges students undertake throughout the year with the goal to build skills in communication, teamwork, confidence, and independence in our Year 10 ākonga.

Over five days students took part in the Ropes Course at Geraldine High School, under the direction and guidance of the specialist Peel Forest Outdoor Centre team. The students started with team building activities, such as trust falls before moving onto low ropes and then spending the afternoon aiming for the treetops on the high ropes. A great day was had by all students, getting to explore their limits, learn more about leadership and teamwork and show off their climbing skills, some even gained some wet weather skills. A special thanks to all the staff who came to assist students throughout the experience, and the team from Peel Forest

Are you interested in finding out which class won the first main challenge of the year? Well, you’ll just have to wait…

Service to the Community:

A group of Year 10 students volunteered their time for a street collection appeal earlier this term to raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation. This charitable trust, not only provides support for children and families facing the child cancer journey but also supports the Health Professionals who provide their medical treatment.

The students raised over $500 with the support of the generous Geraldine community during their time at Fresh Choice on the 8th of March. An important part of the year 10 Individual Challenge is leadership or service, unpaid work, that gives back to the community. Twelve students were able to count their street appeal time towards their community service.
