Te Whare Ako Term One Update
Kia ora koutou!
We would like to acknowledge all the amazing effort from all of our fantastic student-athletes over the course of these first few weeks of the term. We’ve had great success in the swimming competition as well as our athletics events.
Students in TWA took careful notice of how to maximise their best efforts in every event they entered. There were a lot of highlights for many students and each student had a smile while competing. Also to note is that our local Special Olympics coordinator came to GHS to run a great session with our students honing their volleyball skills. We were joined by a fellow Special Olympian from Mackenzie College. The relationships being fostered shows the importance of being active in a club/sport within the community.
There are some great upcoming events for TWA. Next week we will have our Aoraki athletic competition where our student-athletes will look to shine against a wider collection of area schools around south Canterbury. We wish them all the best! Lastly, TWA will be gearing up for another great EOTC opportunity at the end of the term. TWA will be participating in a Peel Forest camp over the last few days of the term. This camp has been graciously funded by the Acorn foundation and TWA is extremely grateful for their generosity.
Looking forward to a great rest of the term!

Swimming sports was a great day for TWA students. The representatives from our department swam with pride and power. A great accomplishment for each of the swimmers as they were cheered on loudly by all the participants.

Athletics competition was a great day overall for all participants! Our students in TWA competed against their same age peers and earned many house points on the day. Cox house won the day overall but everyone put in a great amount of effort!

What a match! What a serve! Great job TWA!
TWA was learning valuable skills to compete in the game of volleyball. South Canterbury Special Olympics made the trip out to GHS to give our students a great session. All the students practiced their newly acquired skills and competed against each other in a highly spirited competition.
