Sports Updates

Janet Harding —

We have had a busy time in the Sports department at GHS over the last few weeks. We have had Tennis, Cricket, Athletics and Duathlon events happening with our students achieving some excellent results.

Keep an eye out for more sporting events over the coming weeks including our school swimming sports, Y7 & 8 Basketball competition getting under way and more Athletics events such as Country High Schools and Aoraki Champs.

COULD ALL SPORTS UNIFORMS PLEASE BE RETURNED TO THE SPORTS OFFICE AS WE ARE MISSING HEAPS.

Sports Updates

Volleyball

Friday night league is continuing until 31st March.

Aoraki Champs are 21st(girls)and 23rd March.(boys).

Basketball

Congratulations to Cayden Halsey,Dillan Sami,Riley Nicholls and Ivan Orbase who all made the U15 South Canterbury Basketball reps.

Senior Boys Basketball Trials

These are being held Thursday 16th March 6-8pm GHS Gym.

Year 7 & 8 Monday night competition starts March 6th.

Secondary School competition Friday night competition starts April 28.

Netball

Registrations are now OPEN. Please fill in this google form to register and take note of upcoming trial dates. Further information about the season will come out later please follow our facebook page to keep up to date - Geraldine High School Netball Club.

Boys Rugby

We are in need of coaches for our teenage boys rugby teams and players need to watch out for registrations.

Girls Rugby

U11s and U13s Comp. starts Monday 12th June.

U 15 and U 18 Comp starts Wednesday 17th May.

Athletics

Some excellent results at our school athletics with some records being broken.

Ella Waldron broke 200m (27.7)

Ethan Hole broke 100m (11.71) and high jump 1.70m

Ella Waldron competed at the National athletics champs in Wellington and gained a Bronze medal in 100m Hurdles, Bronze in the relay and 4th in Long jump.

Country High Schools

A great day at Fairlie with the students representing GHS in a great manner. There were a number of placings in events. In the relays GHS won 6 out of the 8 relays.

Ella Waldron broke her 200m record again.

Aoraki Secondary Schools 15th March in Ashburton.

Tennis

Kristin Schoneveld and Shilah-May Bradshaw attended Aoraki Tennis Champs and got one round in before it was called off due to rain.

Cricket

Our first XI had a stella performance against Roncalli on Friday 3 March. They ended up only losing by two wickets. We batted first making 139 runs.Some great batting with Jackson Weir 36, Scott Robertson 27 and Jonty Sowden 21. Olly McKeown took 4-30 from 7 overs.

Duathlon

Charlotte Walker and Teagan Braithwaite competed in the SISS/Aoraki Duathlon champs in Oamaru on Sunday 5th March. The girls were first in the junior girls section. Awesome effort girls.

Speedway

Oscar Drake competed in the Burt Munro competition and won his section. Oscar competed in the 200cc solo class and he was unbeaten all day in heat races. He won the final, and this is his second trophy as Burt Munro champion.

Swimming

Thomas Anderson and Vardan Sims competed in the South Island Long Course Swimming champs from 3-5 March in Invercargill.

Thomas won a Bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke. Thomas also made 8 finals out of the 8 events he entered with 6 PBs.

Vardan also won a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke for his age category, gaining 5th place in the Skins event, making the finals in 3 other breaststroke races and getting a PB in the 200m individual medley.

We have just had our school swimming sports and what a great event it was. It was awesome to see our students back competing in the school pool with a break from this the last couple of years. There was plenty of house spirit, records broken and the House jumbo relay was won by Cox house.
