Girls Rugby

Under 15

We’ve kicked off a new season for our U15 Girls Rugby Team. Many new faces, which has been great to see! We’ve been lucky this year to keep Rob McQueen our Forwards Coach from last year, and have Gideon Snow as Assistant Coach, working with our Backs. The girls have been giving 100% and playing some great rugby. Every week they’ve been gelling more and more, and we are excited to see what the Season brings for our Team. We’d love to see lots of supporters at our Home Games.

Swimming

Aoraki Swimming Championships were held on the 26th of May in Ashburton. Due to sickness, we had a much-reduced team with only three swimmers in total. However, they performed really well and both Thomas Anderson and Ella McDowell won some of their events.

Neptune King’s Birthday Short Course Meet

Nurryya Low attended the above swim meet in Dunedin during King’s Birthday weekend. She received Bronze for the 200m Breaststroke. She also came away with 4 PBs. Awesome work Nurryya.

Cross Country

On Tuesday 16th May, we had a team of four runners who competed in the Aoraki Cross Country Champs at Ashbury Park in Timaru.

Sophia Rusbridge was 2nd in Y9 girls, Eden Carter was 11th in Y9 girls, Ryan Billet was 14th in Senior Boys, and Shae Tindley-Welch was 29th in Senior Boys.

Two students, Charlotte Walker and Grace Worner, competed in the inaugural Southern Schools Cross Country on Sunday 28th May also at Ashbury Park.

Charlotte won her AWD event and Grace was 3rd in Intermediate Girls. Top effort!!!

Junior Quad

This is an annual fixture between Geraldine High School, Mt Hutt College, Darfield High School and Ellesmere College.

We had a brilliant day at Mt Hutt College with our Netball, Rugby and Soccer teams performing well. It was great to see students who are not that experienced at some of these sports having a go and achieving some great results.

At the end of the day, Geraldine High School was second in the Junior quad. Excellent work teams.

Senior Quad

This was hosted by us this year. It was a great day of sport with some close games in netball especially. Rugby and Soccer teams also played well. Overall Geraldine High School was second on the day with 15 points. Mt Hutt took it out with 21 points. Thank you to all who were involved in making this day a success.

iSport Youth Leadership Day

On Thursday 25th May, thirteen Year 12/13 students from our school attended the iSport Youth Leadership day in Christchurch at the Town Hall. Guest speakers included Richie McCaw, Dan Carter, Dame Valarie Adams, Dame Sophie Pascoe, Moses Mackay and Arihia Bennett.

Each of these speakers had some great knowledge to pass on to our future leaders and it was a great opportunity to hear from some of our NZ sporting icons.

Piper McCale had this to say about the day:

“Valarie Adams talked about having the right people on your “bus”, who support you and back you 100%. Having the confidence in who you are and surrounding yourself with positive people is key in character development.”

Te Whare Ako students

The GHS students in Te Whare Ako participated in the recent Special Olympics Soccer Tournament in Timaru. The students were extremely excited to get the opportunity to compete with other area schools. The Special Olympics events are truly a sight to behold as every athlete competing excels not only on the competition side of things but most importantly demonstrating the spirit of being a good sportsperson. Students in Te Whare Ako proudly displayed the school values of Achievement, Respect and Relationships. Students in TWA even stepped up to support other school teams, when they did not have enough students to field a full team. Ka pai TWA Titans!
