LEVEL ONE

Course Description

This course will involve students in the development of knowledge and skills in the use of materials, tools and the design process, in order to develop design solutions to meet specific design briefs. Both wood fabrication and engineering skills will be included, as will the use of hand and machine tools. Vocational Pathway: Manufacture and Technology.

Course of Study

The first project is an aluminium tool box using a set design. The second project is a chair of individual design.

Assessment

Total 24 credits from AS and US. Achievement Standards (12 credits)

91057: Implement basic procedures using resistant materials to make a specified product. 91047: Undertake development to make a prototype to address a brief.

Unit Standards: (12 credits) 22923 Demonstrate basic workshop skills under close supervision. Optional 91044: Undertake brief development or address a need or opportunity.

Costs

$80 take home materials for the first project.

Entry Criteria

Priority to students having completed the Y10 Hard Materials Technology course.

LEVEL TWO

Code: L2TFW

Course Description

This course will involve students in developing building and construction skills, and is assessed using BCITO standards.

Vocational Pathway: Manufacture and Technology.

Course of Study

You will be working as part of a team to build and construct a non-consent building. This will go up for sale at the end of the course and will contribute to funding the programme.

Some lessons during the week will be set aside for written theory work and you will be expected to keep up to date with this. This will be done online, and will provide a portfolio of evidence of your learning and participation.

There is also the opportunity to complete a three day Welding course at ARA. This will also gain 3 credits.

US 12936: Non-consent building (8 credits)

US 12927: Hand tools (6 credits)

US 24357: Communication (4 credits)

US21907: Welding procedures (3 credits optional)

Costs

$85 take home materials for the first project. Costs for subsequent projects will be advised at the time. Entry Criteria

Priority will be given to students who have successfully completed the Level 1 Hard Materials course.
