International Team —

This week we are introducing:

Mabuhay!

NAME: Nikki Alinar

AGE: 17 years old (Year 13)

HOME TOWN: Iloilo City, Philippines!

ROLES: House leader/International Committee

WHEN DID YOU ARRIVE IN NZ? I arrived in NZ around late 2014 when I was 9 years old and grew up mostly in Canterbury.

LIKES: I like to write, to cook, to sing and to play the piano.

My favourite Filipino dishes are Lechon, Chicken Inasaal, Arroz Caldo, Sinigang and Pork Adobo to name a few.

FIRST THOUGHTS ON NZ: I found that NZ is quite the picturesque country with its beautiful landscapes of forests, beaches, snow-capped mountains, ice glaciers, waterfalls and its large flat plains in the South. Although I’ve lived in NZ for 8 years now, I must admit that I miss having the privilege of being able to access the sweetest tropical fruits 24/7.

INTERESTING FACTS: In the Philippines, we are proud of our bananas, mangoes, jackfruits, rambutan, papaya, coconuts, watermelons and rockmelons although these are only a few. These are often made into desserts, shakes and smoothies, but it is just as worthwhile eating them as they are.

I’ve grown to love NZ and I can’t wait to explore more of it!

Thank you, School!

Nikki
