NCEA and Absences

Suzanne Pidduck —

We are getting to the point in the term where a number of our senior students are sitting assessments so we thought it was worth reminding people of what happens when your child is away.

When your child is sick and an assessment is scheduled, please ring the office and let us know. If your child is ill for more than two days, we will need a medical certificate. Where possible, we will offer the same amount of time as your child has missed.

We know that sometimes there are unavoidable family emergencies or bereavements and will work with your child in these circumstances as well to make sure they are not disadvantaged in their assessment. It is your child's responsibility to email our NZQA Principal's Nominee (s.pidduck@geraldinehs.school.nz) to let them know as soon as they can but they may need a gentle reminder from you.

We cannot give extensions for:

  • “Self-interest” absence (e.g. family holidays etc)

  • “Wilful” absence, such as refusing to hand in tasks.

  • Sickness without medical certificate

When in doubt, email Suzanne Pidduck and she will be able to help you with any questions.
