NAME: Lyn Madriaga

AGE: 15 years old (Year 11)

HOME TOWN: Ilocos Sur, Philippines

ROLES: International Committee Member

WHEN DID YOU ARRIVE IN NZ? I arrived in NZ around 2022 and am currently living in South Canterbury.

LIKES: I like to dance, play volleyball and hang out with people I enjoy! My favourite Filipino dishes are the few local dishes in our country like pancit, pinakbet, afritada and, lechon.

FIRST THOUGHTS ON NZ: The way of life here in NZ caught me off-guard specifically the way education is handled here. I found the cold weather intimidating as a person coming from a tropical country, the low temperatures surprised my tolerance of the cold. I’ve never seen sunsets as beautiful as the ones here in Aotearoa.

INTERESTING FACTS: In the Philippines, I grew up riding a motorcycle vehicle with an enclosed cabin rigidly attached, with four wheels - the two wheels on a motorcycle and an additional wheel on each side. This is a very common way of transport In our country and, what makes it very unique is that it doesn’t have a door!
