Sports Update Feb. 2024

Geraldine High School ImagesFebruary 21, 2024

Welcome and Happy New Year to what is shaping up to be another action packed year of sport at Geraldine High School.

Term one is busy with events such as swimming sports, athletics, tennis, basketball and volleyball all taking place.

We encourage our students to get involved and give a new sporting event a try.

This year has seen the demolition of our school gym in preparation of a new gym and this is exciting for sport at GHS. While this is happening we will be using alternative venues for practices and we ask for your support and patience with this.

If you want to know more about sports at Geraldine High School check out our Facebook page, Geraldine High School Sport where we post results, notices and photos.

Coaches and Managers

We are always looking out for coaches and managers for our sports teams especially for Basketball and Netball. If you think you could spare some time to do this please get in touch with Janet Harding at sports@geraldinehs.school.nz.

Challenge Wanaka

We had two entries in Challenge Wanaka this year. Amelia and Charlotte Walker.

Charlotte did the adaptive triathlon where they don't officially time or place but she was the first female across the line in the middle distance triathlon of 100m swim, 2k bike and 1k run.

Amelia finished 18th in a strong Under 16 field. Amelia was 1st in Aoraki.

Swimming Sports

Swimming sports were held over two days this year at the Geraldine Domain Pool. Both days were perfect conditions for swimming and the students and staff displayed excellent house spirit. This year we had enough staff keen to take to the pool for the staff vs students relay. Alas to say the students took out the title this year.

In the house relay Cox house took out the title once again.

A number of records were broken, a whopping total of over 20!
