Primary Industry Update
Its been all go over the last month for the PIA classes.
The Gold Pine film crew from Auckland used our students as the back drop for the Ed Body Fencing promotion. This will see us on YouTube and in the fencing magazines during the next year. We attended the FCANZ (Fencing Contactors Association) training during the holidays and met Shane Bouskill again. Shane is the current Silver Spades Champion and has won the Golden Pliers multiple times. Students were able to pick up handy tips and have returned to school fired up with plans for our own fencing.
We have been tailing at Lake Coleridge Station, with ex students Zettlin & Jakob and also for Evan & Claire Chapman and Nicole Wakefield-Hart's farm.
The District Young Farmer Skills day at Mt Somers saw 8 PIA students compete across a range of 13 modules ranging from quads, counting sheep, bee hives, saddling a horse, assembling a hand piece, drenching and fertiliser. In perfect weather, it was a great day for us to demonstrate our fabulous teenagers.
The end of last term saw a visit to Drummond & Etheridge in Ashburton with Tristan Leov which included a work shop tour, tractor safety and trialling GPS equipment.
We have planted a few thousand trees for Peel Forest Estate and Kevin Moginie with a whole lot more still to be done.
Level 2 and 3 students are winding up their farm placements with most students getting paid work over the holidays.
The big event of the year is our Prize Giving next week which is a chance to not only celebrate our awesome students but to recognise the amazing Geraldine community which makes this course so successful.
