Yr 12 Hawea tramping and kayaking 2024

Outdoor EducationApril 10, 2024

The year 12 students had planned well for this 6 day trip.

We loaded up the School Bus and headed for Hawea.

Half the crew were going tramping up Breast Hill and out Timaru Creek. This is part of the Te Araroa Trail and has a steep start with impressive views. The team enjoyed the challenge and made the most of the opportunity.

While the first group was tramping, the kayakers spent time on the Clutha River. They experienced flat water and moving water progression and river trips down a grade 2 section. There were also rolling sessions and gold panning for one person!

The first group was able to paddle the Hawea River finishing and the people made waves.
