New books nearing completion

The two books being produced by students of the Te Whare Ako doing the art based programme are almost finished and ready to go to the printer. ‘I’m Going Home For Christmas', produced in 2017, now has a sequel. This week Belinda Roberts will complete the editing and after the corrections are done it will be off to the printer in Nelson. This is a cumulation of two years of drawings, paintings, writings and storytelling that have come together to create this new story. The zoo animals are coming back from their Christmas holidays overseas to their home in the zoo. The story features Elaine Edwards from Orana Park who has kindly let us use her to make this story even more real for our students.

Jesse Johnson, who did all the computer work and contributed to the design of the book, holds the editor's copy with Mr Deavoll. Stage one of the printing process begins.

‘Counting in Maori to 22’ is the second book nearing completion. This book celebrates Henry King’s 22nd year. Henry attended the Te Whare Ako for 9 years until he was 21. This book uses this opportunity to count in Te Reo to Rua Tekau ma Rua. The Te Whare Ako students doing the art based programme have created wonderful banners for each number. We are hoping it will make counting in Maori fun, and that other schools and kindergartens, as well as parents and caregivers, can use this book to encourage counting in Te Reo.

Mr Deavoll would like to acknowledge Harrison Taylor who has volunteered his time and computer skills to co-produce this book. Without his commitment to this project it would not have happened.

It is hoped that both books will be launched at the end of Term 4 in the Geraldine High School Library. They will make great Christmas Presents! All profits go into ‘No Laughing Me Publications', a company within the school. All funds benefit the students involved. We hope to have your support for these projects later in the year.
