Level 1 PIA students in the forest by Mrs Sarah Foley-Smith

Primary Industry in the Forest

The Level 1 class were hosted by Port Blakely in the Geraldine Forest last week. Students learnt how to plant Pinus Radiata hybrids on some pretty interesting country. The general consensus was that we won’t be giving up our day jobs anytime soon! That opinion did change when we moved up to the harvesting operations and had a go on the big boys toys.

Our success story of the year is Olly Dowding & Jordy Muru who both began the year in Level 2 PIA with their placement up in the forest. Both boys have now left school with forestry apprenticeships and have also been selected for the Forestry Processing course (Level 4) worth $5.000 at Mike Hurring in Balcutha.
