On Wednesday, March 5th, around 8:30 am, a total of 55 Geraldine High School students and four staff got on the bus to go to Opihi College to compete against four other schools: Waimate High School, Twizel Area School, Mackenzie College, and Opihi College. It was a very cold start to the day and slowly, it got warmer. Upon arrival at Opihi College, we went out to look at where we would be competing and set up a gazebo, with the first events scheduled to start at 10 am. Throughout the day, the Geraldine High School students performed with pride and enthusiasm, getting placings in a range of events.
At the end of the day, we had relays where Geraldine did very well! We had Under 12 ½ girls and boys teams, Under 14 girls and boys teams, and Under 19 girls and boys teams. Every relay team from Geraldine High won their relay, other than the Under 19 girls team, who got a close third place. The whole trip was a great success and everyone had a great time, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic help of the 4 staff members involved (Mrs Harding, Mr Blogg, Mr Silcock, and Mrs Houston) and of course the bus driver.
