We nearly did it!
On the 9th of May, a group of Year 9 and 10 students travelled to Timaru to compete in the annual Otago Daily Times Spelling Bee 🐝. They split into three groups of three upon arrival and made their way to their designated tables. Once the competition commenced it consisted of 10 rounds of various spelling and grammar related tasks. Each task was challenging and until the last round the Geraldine 2 team of Saskia Finlayson- Hood, Christine Bendsen and Maia Maihuka were leading, only to struggle with an ‘all or nothing’ question. When the final results of the evening came in Geraldine 2 were second overall, two points behind a team from Ashburton College.
All of the teams did really well and enjoyed the evening, especially the quick stop at McDonalds 🍔to celebrate on the way home.
