FMG Junior Young Farmer of the Year Aorangi Regional Final

It was nice to get through this competition after the disruptions of last year. Having the contest cancelled in 2020 meant that most of the students were new to the competition so it was a big learning experience for everyone.

All PIA students entered the Junior Young Farmer and we had one team in the Agri kids competition.

Our students had 8 modules to complete covering things like Biosecurity, product development, marketing, fertilisers, Work safe, Quiz, and cheese. PIA was also selected to help in the main competition head to head for the adult competitors which involved being blindfolded to move through a course and being the recipient of some pretty dodgy hamburgers cooked for them.

After the initial rounds the competitions were narrowed down with GHS having 3 teams in the Junior Young Farmer- 4 rounds of quick-fire questions, and one in the Agri kids finals- an obstacle course.

Again, GHS showed its dominance in the competition with 18 teams entered and coming up trumps with the following results:

So, the Agri kids plus Robert & Kieran are off to Grand Final in CHCH in July

PIA finished the day by helping the judges pack down their modules and tidy up. Top effort team.
