Students at the Ara Animation Taster Day by

Ara Animation Taster Day

On Monday 18th of June, a group of 13 Year 10 to 12 students travelled to Ara’s Timaru Campus to experience a taster day in animation and motion design as part of the Gifted and Talented Education programme at Geraldine High School. The students had either expressed interest earlier in the year, or were recommended by Mr Moulton and Miss Hamilton – the school’s Digital Technologies teachers. The taster day was an opportunity for students to experience different animation programmes, as well as offering the chance to extend existing motion design skills.

The students had the opportunity to take head shots that were then animated with In Design, Photoshop, and After Effects. They also worked with a green screen and were able to fill in the background with an ocean view and a rain effect applying the same programmes they had used to animate themselves earlier in the day. The students enjoyed learning how to use the three Adobe programmes concurrently to create an end product, as well as having access to one on one assistance from the Ara tutor.
