Aoraki Netball

On Sunday 29th July our Senior A Netball team travelled to Ashburton to compete in the Senior Aoraki Tournament.

The girls made it to the semis and came up against Craighead. With only two goals down at half time, the girls gave it their all but went down by eight goals.

The girls then played Waitaki for 3rd and 4th place. Waitaki Girls were a very strong and fast team and just had too much strength for us.

The girls were very happy to be in the top four and are looking forward to SISS Tournament.

Duathlon

On Monday 6th August Marcus and Robert Furrer entered the Canterbury Schools Duathlon. The conditions weren't great with rain and a cold wind but the boys battled on.

Marcus placed 8th and Robert 10th .

Well done boys.

Year 7/8 Rugby Tournament

Our Year 7/8 Rugby team had a great tournament starting with a win against Waihi 27-5. In their second game they won 57-0 against Waimataitai. The last game of pool play was a must win to make the semi's. They played against the St Joseph's and Sacred Heart combined team. The boys started very strongly and were up 15-0 going into half time. They shortened the gap to 20-14 but with a few minutes to go, the boys scored again bringing the final score to 25 -14.

The boys were very excited to make the final against Pleasant Point. Pleasant Point had a great start scoring a try within the first thirty seconds of the game. Our boys kept going and went into half time down 5-12. In the second half, the boys used their strength which was their size and the Forwards put in some great runs to create space for the Backs. The boys went on to score two more tries, one being within the last minute to take the win 15 - 12.

Badminton

We had twelve boys and twenty girls enter the Aoraki Badminton competition in Timaru on 14th & 16th August. All teams had a great day out with some competitive games played throughout the day.

Well done to all teams and we look forward to starting a training day at school in the future.

Dressage

Congratulations to Meg Johnston who has recently been named in the Dressage NZ Young Rider Talent ID Squad for 2018.

This means that Meg will receive national level coaching, dressage pathway and competition goal setting and mentoring from Dressage NZ delegates. The programme also includes sport science clinics with workshops covering physio/pilates training for Horse and rider, equine nutrition and horsemanship. Meg will attend her first squad camp in Christchurch during September.

This is a fantastic achievement and we congratulate Meg on her achievement.
