Athletics Day by

From the Student Exec

The school Athletics Championship for 2019 was a huge success and we had some spectacular results. It was great to see the enthusiasm of the students when competing and supporting their peers over the two days. It was awesome to see everyone taking pride in their Houses by dressing up in their House colours.

Congratulations to Emma Becroft who broke a number of records in the under 14 Girls age group, including the long standing 200m record which was previously set by K Eddy in 1993 (28.0s which was a South Island record). Emma’s time for her 200m was 27.68s. She also broke the record for Long Jump which was previously held by B Cameron with a distance of 4.54m recorded in 2000. Emma jumped 4.77m to break this record. She also broke her own record 100 m which she set in 2018, recording a time of 13.20s.

We would like to congratulate the athletes who placed first in their grade.

  • The Under 12 ½ Champions were Ella Waldron and Finley Fulton.
  • The Under 14 Champions were Emma Becroft and Ryan Chambers.
  • The Under 15 Champions were Amelia McKeown and William Wilson.
  • The Under 16 Champions were Gabriella Rusbridge and Khan Ashton.
  • The under 19 Champions were Lani Curtis and Jack Rusbridge.

Tripp was absolutely outstanding this year in every aspect of Athletics. Jaffar and I are extremely proud of everyone who got involved, whether this was through competing, supporting others or even just dressing up in Blue. Just like Swimming Sports, it was amazing to see so much enthusiasm and effort put in from all our House members in their individual and House events. A highlight for us was the House Relays, where we managed to come away with the win in 7 out of the 10 age group relays and gained 2nd place in the jumbo. A massive thank you to everyone who got involved in this and we are looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring for Tripp!!

Acland this year tried super hard in Athletics! Jazmin and I were so proud of everyone who participated and gave it a go even if it was out of their comfort zones! Unfortunately, we didn’t take the win this year but we have high hopes for the future years. The support and cheering was so awesome, we just about lost our voices from being so loud! Athletics was so memorable this year and I was happy to be so involved with Acland and many others for my last year. It definitely made our last Athletics one of the best! I look forward to the many more House events this year and for Acland to smash it out!

With an awesome turn out for Athletics. I think we have all made our House proud! Everyone was super supportive and cheered each other on and every single person put 110% into their individual events and relays. Hannah and I are super stoked with how enthusiastic everyone was and we are looking forward to the rest of the year.

Athletics 2019 was a raging success for Cox! It was a beautiful day with the sun shining and lots of giggles from the students. We had excellent results from across all age groups and all events and everyone should give themselves a pat on the back. A huge shout out to Emma Becroft for breaking records in her 100m, 200m and Long Jump and a massive congratulations to everyone who got out there and did their best. The best part of the day was the jumbo relay at the very end where Cox absolutely smashed and came through with an incredible win! As a House Captain, I cannot express how proud I am of everyone for getting involved and supporting each other so positively.
