Year 12 Well-Being
This year, all Year 12 students are taking part in a well-being course during Terms 1 to 3. The focus of the sessions is to support and enhance student well-being. This course supports the current school vision, as student well-being is strongly linked to learning and achievement.
Eve Meyer (facilitator), other staff, outside providers and experts from the community will be delivering various content. The knowledge and skills that students gain will be relevant to, and transferable into, all aspects of their lives.
The students attend a well-being session once every three weeks. Topics covered may include the following:
● Outside provider visits (YMCA, WAVE, NZ Police, Loves Me Not)
● Interpersonal skills - decision making, problem solving strategies, effective listening, assertiveness (all of these contribute to building resilience)
● Goal setting
● Learning to learn
● Learning to lead – preparation for leadership roles in Year 13
● Career planning, producing a CV, basic employment rights and responsibilities, interview skills
● Independent living skills
● Financial Literacy
● Te Ao Māori/Biculturalism
● Managing stress/anxiety – could include, but not limited to yoga, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, etc
● Skills around applying for further study, student loans, etc
