Determination, resilience and hard work - congratulations to Ben Gould
Ben Gould is readying himself to head to the NZ Opens for swimming on 17th through to the 22nd June 2019. Ben has recently returned from the ASA Open Championships in Auckland where he swam in 7 events, gained 3 qualifying times for NZ Opens, and beat his personal best times in all 7 races. These 3 qualifying times are in addition to the one he already holds. He will be heading off to the NZ Opens with 4 qualifying times.
NZ Opens is held in Auckland and is the top event for swimmers in NZ. You cannot swim in any event in the NZ Opens unless you have a qualifying time for it. The next step after the Opens, if you were selected, would be to swim at the Commonwealth Games or Olympic Games.
At the NZ Opens Ben will be competing against world record holding swimmers and Olympic swimmers! He will not be swimming in age groups (which is what normally happens in swimming events) but will compete against swimmers of all ages.
As you can imagine, to get this far has taken a lot of hard work, determination and resilience - many hours in the water! We wish you all the very best with the NZ Opens Ben and look forward to hearing your stories when you return.
