Year 8 Trip to the Antarctic Centre

Recently the Year 8's visited the Antarctic Centre as part of their Unique Environments Inquiry unit. They had the opportunity for authentic, contextual learning as they watched a 4D movie, experienced a Hagglund ride, explored the exhibits and saw the Penguins. While staying inside, they were also able to experience an Antarctic storm.  All the students braved -18 degrees Celsius wind chill factor gaining a true idea of how cold the temperatures can be in the deep south.

Some students also managed to take the "Polar Plunge Challenge" facing very icy water for up to 2 minutes.

We are looking forward to seeing how they use this knowledge to compare Antarctica with other unique and harsh environments around the world.
